Description: Morgowr first appeared in 2026 and is still developing as a young professional beast. We are continuing to improve Morgowrs construction decor and movement and character as part of the growing St Ives cornwalls revived Feast day Gusing Tradition
Is there is a folktale connected to your Giant or Beast? MORGOWR is a new processional embodiment of Cornwalls famous sea monster folklore created for The Saleybacks of Hakeybay guise guild in St Ives. The scaleybacks began reviving St Ives Feast night guising in 2003 keeping the old spirit of disguise. With music singing costume street performance community involvment and misrule. while giving the tradishtion a mordern twist in 2026 . Morgowr joined that living tradishtion in 2026. Rather than claiming Morgowr was part of the historic St Ives procession we not Morgawr was a 1976 spelling made famous of the cornish Morgowr meaning Sea Giant in sea monster story’s ,we have brought a mordern cornish folk sea beast into the revived custom and allowing a new piece of folklore to grow. Morgowr now prowls the streets amoug the guisers, musicians and masked characters. From 2027 Morgowr will be teased and lured though the procession by Captain Herring a St Ives smuggler,using Golan a local gull on a teasing stick. Morgowr may appear to follow Captain Herring,although it’s never quite clear whos in control.

Morgowrs first year was also the begining of morgowrs performance story. In 2026 Morgowrs teaser was the seaweed maid with Golan the gull teaser stick. The teaser rols is evolving Captain Herring takes over as Morgawrs teaser with Golan. The scaleybacks guise guild embraces characters and stories that are allowed to grow develop from year to year. Morgawrs first Feast was dancing with Peasans Morris outside the towns Pubs and streets it was Morgawrs first encounter with Osses Alargh du, Penhood with there teasers.
Who Carries the Giant / Inhabits the Beast, or Is It a Shared Role? It is carried by myslf, Andrew, and escorted by my teaser Captain Herring Josette and with Golan the teaser stick
How is it stored? It is stored in our loft, with our whole ensemble of scaleyback costumes
