The People's Perambulation

In the summer of 1240 King Henry III ordered that the boundary of the Royal Forest of Dartmoor be marked. Twelve knights were gathered and completed their famous “permabulation” – riding and walking the 80km of the forest boundar. In 1240 this was done to ensure that the king’s lands were properly protected from the peasants. That boundary still exists, and that land is still owned by the crown…

On 20th April we joined the People’s Perambulation hosted by Wildcard on a walk retracing the steps of the king’s knights, and asking questions about who Dartmoor actually belongs to, about our relationship with nature, and what it means to be a true guardian and commoner of this land.

It was our pleasure to craft headdresses all round for the commoners of this land incorporating materials sourced from the riverside, woodland and moorland for this blissful event.
