Lostwithiel Giants Archive
We are delighted to have created the Lostwithiel Giants Archive—a digital archive chronicling the New Year’s Eve giant-making tradition in Lostwithiel, Cornwall.
About the archive
The Lostwithiel Giants Parade is a New Years Eve folk tradition, born of family and friendship and embraced by the wider community over the years.
This digital archive includes images and clippings dating back to 1990 when the tradition began. It aims to lay out the history, and celebrate the giants and contributions of all who have participated.
A GIANT thank you to John Webb, the physical archive holder, for his meticulous documentation and generosity in sharing it with us.
We also thank the photographers who kindly granted permission to share these images, and to everyone who responded to our call out for further photos and information.
The archive highlights the incredible community spirit and creativity of #lostwithiel and we are pleased to have played our part in showcasing this unique part of Cornish culture and making it accessible to all.
This project was made possible with support from the Improving Pathways to Cornish Intangible Cultural Heritage initiative, funded by the UK Government and Cornwall Council.
