Back Alley Puppet Parade

In the spring of 2021, we were invited to the Barbican Theatre Plymouth to run workshops with local residents, guiding them in the art of giant-making. Together, using mostly scrap and upcycled materials, we built a shoal of Funky Prawns to accompany our towering 20-foot Fisherman- Jolly Bob.

Those who joined us in the workshops later carried their creations proudly through the back alleys of Keyham. Ending in a joyous gathering that brought neighbours together after long months of isolation due to the COVID 19 restrictions.

Alongside the Funky Prawns and Fisherman, the celebration featured jellyfish designed by Barbican Theatre’s ReBels, the glowing Fish-Go-Disco from Above Bounds Theatre, and the Junk Band.

This project was was a joyous act of collective making, bringing life back into public spaces and offering people the chance to rediscover the power of creativity to heal and connect during the pandemic.
