Is your Giant or Beast still active or has it retired?
Active
Description:
Globster is a spirit of the Firth of Forth, created from things (natural and man-made) that washed up on her shores. Her snakey body is built from deconstructed lobster pots, and her head is rope stitched together with untwisted rope fibres. Her eyes are seaweed.
She was built by Margot Melville and Kiri Hawkes as a final project for an Art Foundation Course at Leith School of Art, along with a film of her walking the southern shore of the Firth, from Kincardine Bridge to SeaCliff.
Is there is a folktale connected to your Giant or Beast?
Globster is attempting the impossible task of representing the whole complex world of the Firth of Forth. She is made from the stuff of the Firth; creels, seaweed, old rope, and unidentifiable bits of plastic from the beaches of the Lothians and Fife.
The puppet made a journey along the Firth of Forth as we built her. Like a caddisfly larva, she has built her carapace from the things she found on her way, shapeshifting and sometimes losing parts to the wind and weather.
“A globster or blob is an unidentified organic mass that washes up on the shoreline of an ocean or other body of water.” (Wikipedia)
What was the first event the Giant/Beast attended?
The Leith School of Art final year show
Any tales of outings/visits/strange and wonderful occurrences or special memories that should go down in History
Globster recently Vogried and Pogried with the Ragazag at the Vogrie Pogrie Puppet Parade, and she played with the gannets at the opening parade for the Fringe by the Sea.
