Description: Fayre Lady Well was created by The Lost Giants, she is Priddy’s ancient giant water guardian.
Deep beneath the limestone hills, among the veins of lead and silver that once drew miners underground, Fayre Lady Well’s waters have flowed for centuries. Today, the ancient well and its surrounds have become a haven for wildlife, where dragonflies skim the water, aquatic stick insects thrive, toads, newts and bats find shelter, and rare plants bloom among the old mine spoils.
Fayre Lady Well stepped out for the very first time leading the festival procession and carrying with her the stories, song, wild beauty and the ancient magic of this very special place.
Fayre Lady Well is inspired by the Jack in the Green tradition, She has a hazel and willow basketry framework and hoop skirt. From this we hung netting to which ragged material and fresh flowers (courtesy of Priddy Gardening Club members) were added.

Any Tales of Outings, Visits, Strange and Wonderful Occurrences, or Special Memories That Should Go Down in History? For her very first procession, she was accompanied by Somerset’s Champion Town Crier, Stuart Cumming, “Oyez, Oyez!”, alongside Gaia the Mother Earth giant of Street, Somerset, Pigsty Morris, Kittiwake Border Morris, a gurt wurm and the Pill Musicians. Not a bad line-up for your first ever appearance!
Fayre Lady also has her own song- a wonderfully catchy tune written by Julian Claxton.
Who Carries the Giant / Inhabits the Beast, or Is It a Shared Role? Clocking in at a serious heavyweight division, the Fayre Lady was single-handedly carried by Amy Webb of The Lost Giants. Safe to say, it was an absolute powerhouse feat for this merely 5ft-tall little lady!
Fayre Lady is built to rest on the shoulders, so in theory she can be passed from one person to another.
How is it stored? The Fayre Lady has been taken to a dark and distant cave (courtesy of a Pick Up truck) Maker / Creator(s) The Lost Giants, with help from the Priddy and St Lawrence Federation school children years 1 to 4.
