The Lost Giants with support from the Ffern Folk Foundation are offering a unique opportunity to co-create a processional giant with one selected community between 2026–2027.
What can a giant do for your campaign?
Through the Old Crockern project with Right to Roam on Dartmoor, we’ve seen how a giant can embody land, nature, and collective values—prompted by local folk tales rooted in place. Crockern became a rallying figure for the idea that land is common, that access is a right, and that collective action still has the power to reshape the future.
We’re excited to collaborate with a new campaign and continuing to develop this aspect of our work at the intersection of folk tradition, land, and activism.
What's the opportunity?
We’re looking to collaborate with a passionate, community-driven project to design and build a giant rooted in your landscape, story, and environmental cause.
Together, we will:
- Run creative workshops with your community
- Co-design and build a processional giant
- Support storytelling, events, and campaign visibility
- Help bring your environmental message to life in a powerful, public way
Who can apply?
Your group should be:
- Based in the South West (Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset)
- Focused on a clear environmental goal
- Connected to a species, habitat, or place
- Community-led (not corporate or politically affiliated)
- Able to commit time and people to the project
Key Dates
- Applications open: April 2026
- Deadline: Monday 18 May (12:00 noon)
- Project starts: July 2026
- Giant completed: By March 2027
- Main events: Summer–Autumn 2027
