Description: Horse Head is a traditional character in Jamaican Jonkonnu, usually using a horse skull. I made this one a bit lighter with cardboard and paper mache. The fabric body is bandana fabric – a kind of madras cotton. The pattern and colour is used Jamaican traditional folk dance costume. Horse Head has won some rosettes which are in Jamaican flag colours, though it will never say what for. Materials include, cardboard, paper mache, hot glue, wire, various fabrics, thread, ribbon, acrylic paint.
Is there is a folktale connected to your Giant or Beast? Jonkonnu traditionally takes place at Christmas time. It is a procession through the streets with a band and with a whole collection of characters. This version of Horse Head is overly energetic and a little cheeky.
