Description: GayOss is constructed from heat-formed pvc waste-pipe, with connectors and zip ties. The top covering is musin, with polycotton text attached to netting, many rainbow ribbons and fake flowers. She was made for the Pride in London parade 2025 by Rosie Mott and Izzy Hancock to ensure that the first outing of the Queer Morris Alliance was a spectacle! We spoke to the creators of the pink Deptford Oss in creating this beast, and ensured that ours was as light as possible, and most importantly, is a beast that is BIG but collapses down small enough that you can take her on the tube!
Is there is a folktale connected to your Giant or Beast? GayOss is a fabulous Drag Queen based upon the Deptford Oss. She has no particular folk tale behind her, but she draws on the fabulous atmosphere of the Morris as well as Gay Pride parades (and unexpectedly 1970s cake fashions!)
What Was the First Event the Giant / Beast Attended? Pride in London 2025 with the Queer Morris Alliance
Any tales of outings/visits/strange and wonderful occurrences or special memories that should go down in History
At the end of the Pride Parade the QMA head over the bridge to chill out in the gardes, which requires taking Gay Oss onto the pedestrian bridge over the Thames. A particularly spectacular event both times we have done it as she is quite the sail!
Who Carries the Giant / Inhabits the Beast, or Is It a Shared Role? She is an individual. Best ridden by someone who has shown up to the parade meaning to carry bags or pull kit-trolleys, the more inexperienced and unexpected the better.
How is it stored? About 12 of the zip ties are severed, the fabric top is untied and she comes apart into several pieces. She lives the rest of the year in Izzy’s loft-space.
